Boxing fans right across this great country of ours better get ready for one of the biggest months ever this coming September when it comes to the Sport of Champions. With a number of great action-packed cards already have taken place this year, fight fans are about to be treated to a month that they’ll remember for some time to come.
The month starts off on Friday September 7th in Edmonton when promoter Mel Lubovac and KO Boxing present another in their long line of World class night at the fights at the Shaw Conference Center. Former amateur star Cam O’Connell of Red Deer will be out to get back on the winning side of things after losing the last time out when he faces the tough Mexican 36 fight veteran Jesus Laguna over eight rounds. The exciting O’Connell has lost two of his last three fights. The Alberta Lightweight knows that he needs to score an impressive win come September 7th. Look for the 29-year- old to improve on his record of 16-2&1(10 KOs) when the bell rings. Others seeing action on the Edmonton card will be Artur Ziyatdinov 6&0, Sadriddin Akhmedov 3 & 0, Carlietto Santoro 3&0 and the always willing Julian Klima 1 & 1.
Saturday September 8th will see a pair of Pro boxing cards taking place. The city of Mississauga Ontario will host another great night of all out war when Tyler Buxton and United Boxing Promotions continues doing their part of rebuilding the Sport of Champions in that province. Buxton and Company have fast become one of the top promoters in the country and it’s easy to see why. They have gone all out to present boxing shows that have been nothing but filled with action that has kept fans on their feet, cheering every second of every bout being fought. Undefeated Lightweight Josh O’Reilly of Hamilton will be out to improve on his record of 12 & 0 (5 KOs) when he takes on Mexico’s Jorge Luis Melendez over eight rounds. The 27-year-old O’Reilly is becoming a huge fan favourite with his two-fisted style. He’s one of the best upcoming prospects in the country and he’ll be out to show fans that come September 8th. Others on the stacked Mississauga card will be Franz Rill, Mohammed Abedeer, Larone Whyte, Bradley Hamil, Ryan Young, Mikhail Miller, Antonio Napolitano, Sukhdeep Singh Bhatti and Karlton Hess. Bombs away in Mississauga!!
September 8th will see a second card being held in Alberta on the same weekend when Michael Short and Dekada Boxing showcase a number of that province’s best upcoming stars on a card held in Calgary. Undefeated Devin Reti will be looking to score win number 11 when the rough and tough Welterweight takes on the 7 & 1 Hector Gabriel Ruiz of Mexico who’s coming
to town to score an upset. He’s in for a rude awakening when he faces Reti who’s scored five knockouts since making his Pro debut on November 29th of 2014 with a knockout of Starr Roberts in front of his home town fans in Calgary. Undefeated Gwyn Lewis (3 & 0) and Kandi Wyatt (5 & 0) as well as Dwayne Lewis (2 & 1) and Stephanie Essensa 2-1 & 1 will also be seeing action on the Calgary card that is sure to be another sell out.
New Brunswick fight fans will be excited to know that a great night of fights is being held on Saturday September 15th in Kedgwick. Details are still being worked on by the promoters of that event with two boxing matches already confirmed to take place.
Light-Heavyweight Stephen Clement of Elsipogtog takes on Federicton’s Alex Paul in a bout that no doubt will be action filled as both fighters are known to be willing to go toe to toe right from the opening bell.
Heavyweight Steve Whitall of Nova Scotia will be out to score a win when he takes on Campbellton’s Kevin Debigare in a battle of the big guys. This has the makings to be a good old fashion brawl. The evening will also see a number of kickboxing and MMA fights taking place. Promoters of this event are working nonstop to give the fans a great night of all out action! There really is no other place to be in the province than the Kedgwick Arena come September 15th.
September closes out with Pro boxing cards being held in Oshawa Ontario on Saturday September 22nd as well as Cornwall Ontario on Saturday September 29th.
Fredericton’s undefeated boxing sensation Brandon “L-Jack “Brewer returns to action on the September 29th card being held in Cornwall Ontario. He’s scheduled to fight an eight rounder against a yet un-named opponent. Brewer last fought on September 19th of last year when he scored a hard-fought decision over the tough as nails Fernando Silva in a bout held in Shediac. Brewer wants to serve notice to fighters in his weight class that he’s back!
Brewer drew standing room only crowds to three Fredericton boxing cards and N.B. fans are looking forward to more shows being held in the Capital City in the near future. Welcome back “L-Jack”!!
